This method is the longest, and simplest method. it might be best to take this suggested path with a sponsee who has already worked the 12 Steps out of the book Alcoholics Anonymous (not other, non-big book, methods).
This approach is simple, you and the sponsee either read a chapter ahead and read and discuss the highlights you both found, or, for a more in-depth look, read, word-for-word the big book together, studying, defining words and discussing what was read – but of course, taking any actions as you come to them.
The reason this method is not suggested for someone’s first time through the steps, is because often at first a newcomer needs to treat their compulsive shopping and spending quickly – and if they do not pick up the spiritual tools found in the 12 steps quickly, they may not overcome their compulsive debting in time to prevent the certain disaster that results from untreated compulsive debting. But some do take longer to get through the steps, and so ultimately let your Higher Power guide you.
You may also start with this path and switch to a more abbreviated medium or short path if compulsive debting seems to be catching up with your prospect faster than they are getting through the steps and having a spiritual awakening.
